What happens in a Climate Fresk workshop?

A Climate Fresk session starts with a table, a facilitator and a deck of 42 cards. Each card carries one element of the climate system — burning fossil fuels, CO2 concentration, rising seas, melting glaciers, human consequences. The task: arrange them in order of cause and effect.

That is the whole mechanism, and it is why the workshop works. Nobody is lectured. The group argues, rearranges, discovers feedback loops they had not considered, and by the end has built — and genuinely understands — the causal chain from human activity to climate impacts.

The workshop runs in three phases. The construction phase (about 90 minutes) builds the fresco. A creative phase lets the team title and illustrate their collage — this is where the science settles into memory. Then the debrief: feelings first, then actions — what this means for your organisation and what you will do about it.

Practical details: groups of 4 to 14 per facilitator, about three hours, in person around a table or online on the official digital version. No prior knowledge needed — the method assumes none.

Companies book it to ground a sustainability programme in shared understanding; schools and universities use it as climate literacy; and many participants leave asking how to become facilitators themselves. If that sounds useful for your team, our Book a Workshop page takes two minutes to complete.
